In-Town New Commercial Business
A business license application, zoning permit application and emergency contact form must be submitted to begin review for the business license. You will also be required to provide a copy of your rental or lease agreement for the location of your business and a copy of your driver’s license or other form of acceptable identification.
Fee
The business license fee is based on the Class Rate (PDF) associated with the North American Industrial Classification System (NAICS index).
Review
The Planning and Economic Development Department will review the zoning permit application to verify zoning of the business location. You will also need to contact our Building Department and/or Fire Marshal to schedule a business license inspection at your proposed business location.
In some cases, building permits will be required for tenant up fits or new construction. Please contact the Building Department by telephone at 843-851-5200 for additional information to apply for a permit.
Approval
A business license will not be issued until the review process and inspections have been approved and finalized with the Planning Department, Building Department and/or Fire Marshal.
If you have purchased an existing business or you are transferring a business to your ownership, a new business license is required. Some additional documentation may be required such as a Bill of Sale or Business Acquisition.
