Summerville Ashley River Preserve

The Town of Summerville is developing a master plan for 43.65 acres of undeveloped property along the historic and beautiful Ashley River. This wonderful natural resource is located adjacent to the existing Herbert H. Jessen Boat Landing property that is 7.61 acres. This unique property provides direct riverfront access to Summerville residents.

The Ashley River connects Summerville to the Atlantic Ocean through the Charleston Harbor. A 22-mile segment of the River has been designated as a State Scenic River. The River remains a relatively undisturbed tidal ecosystem and provides habitat for many wildlife. It is also rich in historical value. Plantation sites and rice field water control structures are just a few relics boaters can enjoy viewing while on the River.

This project is currently known as the “Summerville Ashley River Preserve.” By developing this site into a park the Town will expand the recreational amenities currently being offered within Summerville. The Town of Summerville also hopes to grant greater access to the riverfront while protecting the Ashley Scenic River and its natural beauty. This environmentally rich property is one of Summerville’s undiscovered jewels.
