The Mayor and Council of the Town of Summerville are accepting applications to fill the expiring terms on the following Citizen Committees, Boards, and Commissions:
Board of Architectural Review
Commercial Design Review Board
Municipal Election Commission
Board of Zoning Appeals
Bicycle & Pedestrian Advisory Committee
State Accommodations Tax Advisory Committee
You must either be a resident within the corporate limits of the town, be the owner of real property located within the corporate limits of the town, or be appointed by a unanimous vote of the Council to serve.
Applications are due Tuesday, December 1, 2020.
Citizens of the Town of Summerville have an opportunity to volunteer their time and expertise on a number of citizen committees, boards, and commissions. Appointments are made by Mayor and Council in December of each year when there are seats with expiring terms.
The Summerville Beautification Committee (SBC) exists to provide strategic counsel regarding beautification and improvement of Summerville.
This seven-member citizen appointed Committee was established by Town Council to advise the Town on bicycle and pedestrian issues.
Our Board of Zoning Appeals is a five-citizen appointed board hears appeals of the Zoning Ordinance and requests for appeals to the written decision of the Zoning Administrator.
Seven citizens make up the Design Review Board. The board reviews all proposed commercial development within the Town of Summerville to ensure that the Town’s commercial corridors contribute to a sense of place and pride and further strengthen the integrity of Summerville’s historic and best characteristics.

The Historic District / Board of Architectural Review reviews all new construction, exterior modifications, and/or demolition of buildings within the Town of Summerville’s Downtown Historic District. The Historic District/Board of Architectural Review is appointed by Town Council and staffed by the Planning and Economic Development Department.
This is an ad hoc committee that reviews applications for local Hospitality and Accommodations tax funds and makes recommendations to Council for disbursement of funds to nonprofit organizations that promote tourism in Summerville.
The Planning Commission reviews land planning applications and makes recommendations to Town Council on items such as rezoning, zoning ordinance amendments, the Comprehensive Plan, the Capital Improvements Plan, and other items as directed by Town Council.
