The Saul Alexander Playground is officially open!
The Town of Summerville celebrated with a ribbon-cutting ceremony on February 18, 2022. Renovations started in July 2021 after the Town Council unanimously approved the remaining $150,000 needed for the park’s remodel.
The playground is handicap accessible and re-designed to be enjoyed by children of all abilities. Renovations, including sidewalks, a zip track, an inclusive whirl, and a musical corner, promote social equity and enhance the quality of life for the community. Children with cognitive, physical, sensory, or social disabilities have equal play opportunities.
The town received funding for the project from the Dorchester County Government, the Summerville Miracle League, a Park and Recreation Development grant, and the South Carolina Federal Credit Union. The bid for construction was awarded to GameTime c/o Cunningham Recreation.
Saul Alexander Park Playground is located at 615 S. Laurel St. It's open daily from dawn to dusk under regular operating hours and is maintained by the Parks & Recreation Department.
